This piece (possibly by Senfl) bears a striking resemblance to Josquin's "Mille regrets" and wouldn't be the first time Senfl borrowed from the master.
Mille Regretz (the recording)
Several years ago I posted a video about Josquin's composition of "Mille regretz" - a song whose entire message is "It's so awful to leave you that I think I'd rather die". But somehow I never actually posted the song! Here it is, somewhat belatedly!
Story of Dido
Purcell wasn't the only composer to set the lament of Dido, Queen of Carthage! Read more about the story and the setting by Josquin des Prez here!
Josquin's process
My favorite part of analyzing a piece is seeing how the composer constructed it (and remembering that they're just humans with a particular skillset, like anyone else). This video from Early Music Sources demystifies a gorgeous chanson by Josquin!
Josquin's Praeter rerum seriem
I've posted Lusitano's setting of Praeter rerum seriem before, but never Josquin's - have a listen!
Josquin
The name Josquin des Prez is thrown around a lot in Early Music circles, but how much do you really know about him? Here's a great place to start!
Mille Regretz
Regrets? We all have them. Check out this awesome video from Early Music Sources about how Josquin worked through his!
All about Josquin
"And one story has someone saying that you want to employ Isaac because he will write when you want him to — whereas Josquin will only write when he wants to, and costs twice as much." And in which choir loft did Josquin carve his name? Read more here!
